About
Us
The
Denver Independent Choreographers' Project (DICP) assists professional
dancers in a transition into choreography, offering services at affordable
costs, and without obligation. The goal of the DICP is to allow independent
dance choreographers a chance to create and show their original works
to the general public in a professional setting, using professional-caliber
dancers, and leaving with the tools to obtain employment in dance choreography.
The
DICP supports professional and post-professional dancers in their first
attempts at choreography as a step towards career transition, as well
as non-affiliated choreographers. This 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
provides an outlet for both dancers and choreographers by providing
fully-funded performance opportunities; expert feedback and critique
to choreographers; teaching opportunities; and a professional videography
of each work of choreography. The DICP also offers portfolio creation
and other dance-related services at a low cost, with the intention of
making tools available for the dancer and choreographer to establish
themselves as employable talent within the professional dance community.
The
DICP benefits the professional or post-professional dancer by offering
a creative and professional outlet for maintaining or rebuilding performance
stature. In addition, the DICP provides working and non-working dancers
in the Denver area the opportunity to work with up-and-coming choreographers
in professional dance performances, providing rehearsal and performing
experience, as well as a final documentation of their performances,
which can be used for future employment. As well, The DICP offers master
classes throughout the year, with innovative teachers, in multiple disciplines.
The
DICP provides choreographers a free-form outlet for their original works,
capable dancers on which to set their pieces, and necessary exposure
to the dance community through publicity, professional critiques, performance
opportunities, and video recordings of their finished products.
As a result, the DICP supports dancers who hope to transition into choreography,
independent choreographers seeking resources for their talents, and
underutilized dancers in the Denver area seeking performance opportunities.
